A couple of years ago I vacationed on the Island of Sao Miguel and it was an awesome experience. I have been back 3 or 4 times since then and I enjoy it more each time. If you don’t have this destination on your bucket list as one of the places to see. Well, your list is incomplete my friend.
Sao Miguel is the largest of the nine islands that make up the Azores. The island is beautiful and lush with so much to see. The city is a great place to shop, eat or just walk around night or day. While the rest of the island is a very lush, green, beatiful jewel. There are sandy beaches bathed by warm oceans that are ready to be enjoyed. The lifestyle in Sao Miguel is very european, laid back and intoxicating. As a visitor let me tell you that it feels so relaxing you might never want to leave. This is one occasion where a picture is worth a thousand words. Instead of going on and on about my trip I’ll post pictures instead. If they don’t make you want to go there I don’t know what will.
If you decide to vacation in Sao Miguel here is a suggestion for the best place to stay. It’s called House Rodrigues, locally owned homes that are opened welcomingly to visitors. In addition to renting any of the homes there are also activity packages available. Activities such as car tours, hiking, swimming with dolphins and whale watching just to name a few. One of the homes is located in the heart of the city and allows instant access. The house has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, kitchen, living room along with a laundry area. It offers such amenities as free wifi and a baby crib if needed. A security deposit is required but it is fully refundable on checkout. After an inspection of the home. The cost of the home in the high season (April – September) is 80 euros/night. During the low season (October – March) it drops down to 70 euros/night. There is also a cleaning fee of 35 euros charged per stay. A minimum of a 3 night stay is required to book. The other house available is in a more quiet gated community. It is in the village of Água de Pau. Also much larger therefore a little more expensive. It has an outdoor fireplace, wood burning stove and area for a barbeque. As well as a community tennis court and pool. The view is simply stunning and looks out onto the ocean. A perfect place to cozy up as the sun sets in the evening. The cost is 125 euros/night during the high season and 110 euros/night during the low season. The cleaning fee, security deposit and minimum length of stay is the same for bookings. Believe me I don’t get anything for referring anyone to them. I just want visitors to have the best time possible in the Azores. Which is why I try to steer them in the direction of friendly, honest people who know the island like the back of their hand. They are a great resource for any traveller and will really try their best to enhance the experience.
