Online Central Storage is a bad idea

I was listening to one of my favorite podcasts, MacBreak Weekly Episode 518. Host Leo Laporte was suggesting a new direction for Apple. They would have a central online location for all of a user’s files. The way I understood it that would be everything, pictures, documents, spreadsheets, music, EVERYTHING!It’s a good idea in theory but in terms of the real world I thought it was a horrible idea.

HBO’s Silicon Valley, thoughts

Silicon Valley is polarizing though. Ever since the first season it seemed to me that people either loved it or they hated it. Me, well like I said I love it. I find it hilariously funny and I’m glad that there is finally a show all about my favorite subject, tech. I’ve been wondering lately, after the finale, how many more seasons are left in the show.

Why aren’t you using a VPN?

You can hardly go anywhere now without finding a free wifi hotspot. The problem is that VPN use is not as prevalent. Most mainstream users who use VPN do it not for security but to watch shows that are blocked by location. This is one of the features of VPN but not the one that should be widely known.

The VR future

The new talk of the town lately is Virtual Reality or VR and by extension Augmented Reality or AR. There’s Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg with the Occulus Rift along with many other companies that are trying to “crack” VR. Personally I feel like this is not going to be a game changer right out the gate like everyone is expecting simply because I hear everyone talking about how big it’s going to be. I think the potential is there but what I see in my head is in the very distant future.
